Event Details: The River Raisin National Battlefield Park Foundation is pleased to present the 4th in the series “Beautiful Bountiful Michigan” Art Exhibition. The 2023 artwork depicts “Scenic Michigan” including the historic landscape of southeast Michigan. The 2023 Exhibition is expected to have over 150 pieces of original artwork on display with numerous different art mediums including oil watercolor acrylic wood burning beaded glass and much more!We cordially invite you and your family to enjoy the Scenic Michigan Art Exhibition free of charge. The Exhibition is open daily April 1-30th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the River Raisin National Battlefield Park Visitor Center located at 333 N. Dixie Highway in Monroe Michigan.We have had a fantastic response from artists to exhibit the amazing art they have created. Event Details: Military Chaplains: Their Mission, Their Gear, Their Faith Monroe, Michigan – The River Raisin National Battlefield Park is honored to host the display Military Chaplains: Their Mission, Their Gear, Their Faith on Saturday, April 1, through Friday, April 7, 2023.For many of us, M*A*S*H reruns are our only source of knowledge of military chaplains - members of the clergy attached to the US Armed Forces. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn of the many duties performed by military chaplains – some solemn, some joyful, but all crucial.Military Chaplains: Their Mission, Their Gear, Their Faith features the field/traveling gear of clergy of diverse faiths. Uniforms, photos, and personal items will also help tell the stories of these dedicated clerics.During the seven days of the exhibit, militaria expert Bob Heskett will be on hand to introduce visitors to his ‘chaplain gear’ collection, considered to be one of the region’s finest assemblies of these portable, durable, precious items. Heskett states, “I work at an alternative high school, and during one particularly challenging year, I found comfort in assembling these items. The more I worked on my collection, the more comfort I found.”Military Chaplains: Their Mission, Their Gear, Their Faith runs from Saturday, April 1 through Friday, April 7. Special talk: On Sunday, April 2 at 2:00 pm in the Park’s Visitor Center Theatre.Bob Heskett will discuss his collection of chaplain gear and tell the stories of those who used that gear, on and off the battlefield. Literacy Littles

Event Details: Literacy Littles - Led by Miss Ashley, this book club will explore the superpower of reading by focusing on a new book each month. Intended for children in Kindergarten through 2nd grade. Who Should Join?Any child that is in kindergarten, 1st, or 2nd grade. This program is designed for emerging readers whether they are advanced readers or struggling readers. What Will the Program Look Like?Every month we will meet to discuss and start reading a new book. First, we will discuss what we think the book will be about. We will also begin to learn about the basic elements of books (i.e. plot, characters, etc.), so we will talk about these things as well. Then as a group, we will begin reading the book--this could be kids volunteering to read or Miss Ashley reading aloud. After reading for a bit, we will then do a craft that centers on the theme of the book. Once done, the children will take their books home to finish reading on their own. When Will the Program be Held?Group A will meet on the 1st Saturday of the month at 10:30 am. Group B will meet on the 2nd Tuesday of the Month at 5 pm. Registration is required. April's book will be Pig and Pug by Laura Marchesani
